Biography

Herbert Alan Scott's statement that James was born in Russell Co., VA in 1767 is incorrect. 1) James W. Scott's father Alexander Scott's settlement in VA didn't take place until 1774, per the Washington County Surveyor's book. 2) Russell County didn't exist until 1786.

Therefore, James had to have been born wherever the family was, previous to their settlement at the Big Cedar Creek, branch of the Clinch River, VA.
