Biography
Per People Australia:
William Scott, MRCVS (New Edinburgh 1883), was a veterinary surgeon in the New South Wales Defence Forces. Following his marriage to Emily White in 1896 the couple moved to Scotland. Emily died the following year and William inherited all her property, including Cranbrook House in Sydney, which he eventually sold to the New South Wales Government.
Scott had been appointed to the Reserve Corps of Sydney Lancers as a veterinary surgeon. In 1889 he was attached to the Permanent Military Force and by 1896 he was the principal veterinary surgeon at the Headquarters of the Veterinary Department of the Military Forces.
He saw service in South Africa for an unknown period of time as a Civil Veterinary Surgeon attached to the British Army Veterinary Department. He then returned to England.[1]
Before his marriage to Emily, William had previously married an 'Ada Alfrida Garrard' in Tasmania in 1886. Just 5 moths before his marriage to Emily this earlier joining was found to be null and void as Ada was already married and therefore committing bigamy[2].
