Biography

Mary was born in Ohio in 1877. She married John A. Downing on April 24, 1895 in Belmont County, Ohio. ^[1]

Mary and John raised four children: Harry, Margaret, Olive, and Mary Blanche. ^[2][3]

John died in 1928, leaving Mary Catherine a widow, and her elder children had married. Mary Blanche, the youngest, remained in the home with Mary and worked as an elementary school teacher. ^[4][5]

Mary Catherine Scott Downing died on July 6, 1956 in Wheeling, West Virginia. She is buried with John at St. Clairsville Union Cemetery in St. Clairsville, Ohio. ^[6]
