Biography

John Scott was born on 16 October 1778 in Pennsylvania. [1] [2] He married Sarah McDaniel, daughter of Francis McDaniel, on 21 July 1803 in Clark County, Kentucky; bond surety by John Scott and Samuel McDonnal, Sarah's father Francis giving his permission witnessed by Samuel McDonnal and James M---tt. His wife was also known as Sallie. [3] [4] He appeared on the census of 7 August 1820 in Fayette County, Kentucky, head of a household containing 2 males under ten, two males ten to 15, one male 26 to 45, four females under ten and one female 26 to 45, three were engaged in agriculture. There were no enslaved people. [5]

He signed the bond for the marriage of his daughter Margaret Scott and Ebenezer C. Lowe about 24 April 1834 in Harrison County, Kentucky. [6] John Scott appeared on the census of 1 June 1840 in Harrison County, Kentucky; the household containing white males aged fifteen to twenty, twenty to thirty and sixty to seventy; females aged ten to fifteen, fifteen to twenty, and fifty to sixty, plus a male slave under ten and one aged ten to twenty-four. [7] He appeared on the census of 9 August 1850 in District No. 1, Harrison County, Kentucky, a farmer with real estate valued at $1000 living with Sarah, age sixty-six, Mary, age twenty-three, and Elizabeth, age twenty. In the household were two enslaved black males, ages twenty-one and nineteen. [8]

John Scott died on 3 March 1857 in Harrison County, Kentucky, at age 78 and was buried in Old East Broadwell Church Cemetery, Harrison County, Kentucky.[1] His will, written 12 September 1854, was entered for probate in the February Term of 1857 and recorded on 7 December 1857 in Harrison County, Kentucky.
