Janet Jewel was born July 4, 1932 in Rhoda, West Virginia to Ernest Freeman and Jessie Jewel Dunaway Scott. She was one of 10 children.
She grew up in Kanawha County, West Virginia. She married Barney Laverty in 1950. She had two children, Barbara and Barney II.
She died on March 29, 2016 in Fayette County, West Virginia. She is buried in Kanawha County Memorial Gardens in Glasgow, West Virginia.
