Biography

Mary "Polly" Scott was born on 10 May 1818 in Scioto county, Ohio. She was the daughter of Joseph Scott (1773-1872) and Mary Cain (1777-1857) and she had twelve siblings. Some time after she moved west to Mercer county, Illinois, she married Young C. Mann on 1 February 1838. He was born in 1810 in Kentucky and the son of James and Rhoday Mann. They had four children living at home in 1850.[1] Their family has grown to seven children by 1860.[2] The family is still in Mercer county in 1880, specifically North Henderson township, with two children and Mary's father, Joseph.[3] It is fairly certain that they had ten children;
James 1838-1846
Joseph 1840-1919
John 1844-??
Amanda 1845-??
Marshall 1850-1850
Mary 1853-1934
David 1855-1858
Thomas 1857-1864
Young 1859-??
Andrew Jackson 1864-1936
Seven are confirmed by census records, but three were not alive in any of the census years of 1850, 1860 or 1870.
Polly died on 9 December 1875 in Mercer county, Illinois, and was buried in Mann Cemetery.[4] Her husband, Young, lived until 1893 and married again, to Emily, a woman born in Canada.
