Joseph's father died; his mother married Thomas Johnson on 19 Apr 1840 at Rainford Chapel of Ease in the parish of Prescot, Lancashire. Both were of full age (21 or more) and widowed, and lived in Eccleston.
By June 6th 1841, the family were living in Liverpool Road, Eccleston; Joseph's stepfather was a sawyer.
By March 30th 1851, they were still in Liverpool Road, Eccleston, and Joseph's stepfather was a sawyer.
