DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Susan by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Susan:
See my earlier post! It may well be that Susan's marriage was in 1760! The son, Benjamin, was taken in by his g-pts Samuel & Sarah Anne. It is possible that Benjamin was named for Benjamin Wray and that his mother was the former wife of John, but who died in 1757-1758. Their custom of naming suggests that "Charlotte" may have been the first wife's name.
It does not appear that Benjamin is the son of Susan (Scott) Despain. This makes an estimated birth year for her later that on this profile. Circumstantial evidence points to Benjamin (b. 1757) being the son of John and a presumptive first wife. He was a favorite heir of his grandfather Samuel and did not move to Kentucky with Susan's children. Benjamin's son Solomon (b. 1790 in NC), however, was raised in the family and married in Green Co. in 1807. It appears that Solomon's mother died before 1796 when Benjamin md again.
