Samuel Scott married Rebecca Tabor on October 6, 1818. Rebecca was fifteen years old and Samuel twenty-five when the justice of the peace, James McTagertt, performed the simple ceremony "by consent of her father she being of Lawful Age."Cite error 3; Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many
Samuel loved land and [at] his death that fact is proven true. Samuel left 35 hundred acres of land in Edgar County, Illinois and nearly a thousand acres in Kansas.
(From Samuel Scott of Martinsville by Ruby T. Scott and dated March 1953)
Samuel had a large and generous heart and that high sense of honor which prevented him from ever defrauding any man and which ever inclined him to assist those less fortunate than himself.(From Portrait and Biographical Album of Vermilion and Edgar Counties, Illinois, 913ff, 1067ff)
Below from Carol Strayer's research: I show Samuel born in Berkeley, James County, Virginia and died in Prairie City, Edgar County, Illinois. Related through my 2nd Great Aunt Mary Strayer Kauffman.
I see there is a discrepancy between Shelly's date of death and the tombstone. From Ruby T. Scott's writtings, she [who?] states Samuel's will was dated November 23. I think that is where the November 23rd date comes from. I believe the tombstone holds the correct date of death.
