Biography

Sarah Scott was born in November 1801 in Virginia. She was the daughter of Benjamin Scott and Sarah Randall.

Per Cowgill History, John Cowgill, b 21 Aug 1798, Frederick Co., VA, d 21 May 1869, age 70y 9m (Bible Record), IN, m. 22 Jul 1819, Carmel MM, Columbiana Co., OH, Sarah Scott, b 1 Nov 1801, VA, d 9 Jun 1892, Bates Co., MO (age 91y, outlived ALL her children), dau of Benjamin and Sarah (Randall) Scott, Columbiana Co., OH, sister to William Scott, who married John's sister, Abigail Cowgill. After John's death, Sarah lived with her son James and wife Barbara. James moved his family and mother by covered wagon from Newton Co., IN, to Butler, Bates Co., MO, in the late 1860's, where they lived the rest of their lives. After James' death, Sarah continued to live with Barbara until her death. Children: eight - Charlotte, Joseph, Ann, Lucinda, James, Eliza, Hiram,Sarah.[1]

She married John Cowgill 22 July 1819 in Columbiana Co., Ohio.[2][3]

RESEARCH NOTE: Given that Charlotte married in late 1840 in Warren Co., it was likely that John and Sarah were living in Warren Co. in June 1840. There was a John Conghill family with almost the correct family structure. Perhaps one the oldest girls were living/working out side the house.
