Biography

We know Rebecca's parents from a marriage record in The Society of Friends in Maryland: 'Hayward, Joseph 9 day 6 mo., 1757, Rebekah Scott, dau. of Jacob and Hannah.' 9 SF[1]

'At our monthly meeting held at Gunpowder _ 22 of the 6 month 1757------The Representatives of each preparatives [?] were called and appeared-------The frds [friends] appointed to see the marriage of Joseph Hayward and Rebecca Scott report that it was accomplished in an orderly manner.' [2]

Joseph and Rebecca also attended the Deer Creek Meeting house for awhile, as recorded in the following record in Baltimore:

'Joseph Hayward produced a certificate at this meeting from Deer Creek for himself and his wife Rebeckah and four children ____ [unreadable] Rachel, William, Mary and Hannah which was read and received.'[3]
