DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with William by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with William:

Possible Scouten relations,

Uriah Schouten, 1770-1828 https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/LZ69-FPG (Related to him through Dutch Colony of NYC. Need to check Family Search line VS WikiTree.)

Also his grandson, James Henry Schouten married Sarah Electra Buell. Need to research how this Buell relates to Buell's in Mitchell, Iowa.
