He was living with his parents in North Branford, New Haven, Connecticut in 1850.[2]
He enlisted as a Private in Company H, Connecticut 2nd Infantry Regiment on 7 May 1861, and mustered out on 7 Aug 1861.[3] He enlisted in Company F, Connecticut 12th Infantry Regiment on 4 Nov 1861.[4] He mustered out on 10 Dec 1863, and did not survive the war.[5] He died of disease on 10 Dec1863.[5] Per Talcott,[6] he died on 18 Dec 1863.
His name, along with his brother James, is engraved on the Soldiers' Monument on the North Branford, Connecticut village green, the first monument in the United States erected to the defenders of the Union in the war of rebellion.[7]
