Samuel Scranton was probably born in Guilford, Connecticut. A source for his birth date has not been found. The Edmund West collection identifies his birth date as 1666 in Guilford, Connecticut.[1] According to tombstone inscriptions, he died in 1750 at age 64, and was thus born about 1686.[2][3]
He was the son of Thomas Scranton.[4] According to Erastus Scranton[4], Thomas was married to Deborah Dudley who died in 1681, after which Thomas married Elizabeth Goodrich (or Griswald). It is therefore most likely that Elizabeth Goodrich was his mother.
He was the executor of his father's will, probated 10 Mar 1711 in New Haven, Connecticut, which divided the estate among his wife Elizabeth, daughter Hannah, and son Samuel.[5]
Samuel Scranton and Elizabeth Bishop, daughter of John, both of Guilford, were married 30 Jan 1712 in Guilford, Connecticut.[6][7] She was born 14 Oct 1690.
He died 18 Mar 1749 or 1750 in Guilford, Connecticut.[6][8]
According to tombstone inscriptions, he died in 1750 at age 64, and was thus born about 1686.[2][9]
