Minerva was born in 1878, the daughter of Marcus "Mark" and Nancy Jane Rice (Clark) Scribner, in Independence County, Arkansas, where she was raised.
On September 13, 1895, Minerva married Sylvester V. Bales, the son of John Benjamin Franklin and Margaret (Baxter) Bales, in Independence, Arkansas. They would have a large family as follows:

Minerva was a life-long member of the Methodist Church and lived in Wichita Falls for many years. She moved to Odessa, Texas in 1957 and passed away a year later when she was 88 years old. Her body is buried in Crestview Memorial Park in Wichita Falls, Wichita County, Texas, along with Sylvester's and many Bales relatives.
