"The family of Matthew Scribner is of great importance and especially so in writing a Scribner genealogy. There is no family of note who holds the name so dear to their hearts, who does not look back to this as the place that seems like home. Here father and mother, brothers and sisters, uncles and aunts and numerous cousins seem to center as on common ground ...... Nine children were born to the household during the next twenty years--five boys and four girls. Men of great ambition and courage and women equally fitted to do their part in founding this great republic. There was much to be done, many trials to be borne, many difficulties to overcome; but through it all they came off as conquerors, ans well deserve the honors that were gladly given them."
