Biography

Mary Lucinda Scribner was the fourth child of Joel and Mary (Bull) Scribner, born in 1804. Along with the rest of her family, she moved around in New England and then, when around 6 years old, they all went west to begin a new life in Indiana.

At 16 years of age, Mary married Dr. Asahel Clapp, 12 years her senior. One year later Mary died, quite possibly while in child birth. She was only 17 at the time of her death.

Mary's older brother, William Augustus Scribner, would study under Dr. Clapp, one year after Mary's death, and become a doctor in his own right.
