Clapp. Her age was eighty years. She leaves two daughters. Her husband was for many years one among the most enterprising citizens of New Albany, being a member of the pioneer machine shops and foundry firm of Lent, South & Shipman, a firm that built the engines for many of the fleetest and most elegant steamboats of ante-bellum times, including those of the famous A. L. Shotwell, the victor in the great race with the Eclipse between New Orleans and Louisville. Mrs. Shipman had many friends and was a woman of the sincerest Christian life and example.
