Mary was the youngest child of Harvey Augustus and Mary Ann Ayers (Day) Scribner, born in 1879. She would become a school teacher and worked for many years in this profession. Sometime before 1943 Mary retired and moved down to Florida.
According to the Addison Scribner (Mary's brother) obituary published in 1943: "Miss Mary Scribner, a retired New Albany school teacher now residing in St. Petersburg, Fla." survived her brother.
Mary met and married John Rothwell (an Englishman who migrated to America) in 1948 when he was 77 and she was 69 years old.
Evidently John and Mary left Florida and moved to New Albany, where Mary was born and lived most of her life. John would live to be 96.
Mary passed away in 1972 at 93 years of age. She and John are buried in the Fairview Cemetery in New Albany, Indiana, where many Scribner family members are buried.
