Biography

Born in 1799, Benjamin Scribner was the fifteenth and youngest child of Benjamin and Hulda (Tappan) Scribner, but he was not the first Benjamin. The oldest child was Benjamin Scribner III born in 1770. He would pass away in 1796 at 26 years of age. The parents must have been heart broken so they named their youngest son Benjamin in his honor.

On November 2, 1820, Benjamin would marry Mary Beede. They would have the following children, all born in Sandwich, New Hampshire:

Amos Peasley Scribner (1822-1892)

Alfred Scribner (1824-1833)

Sarah Scribner (1827-1832)

Benjamin Scribner (1829-after 1900)

Moses Beede Scribner (1831-1906)

Sarah Scribner (1834-1842)

Lydia B. Scribner (1836-1885)

Charles Hoag Scribner (1839-1841)

Sometime after the birth of Charles, Benjamin and Mary would relocate to Lynn, Essex County, Massachusetts where they would live out their lives. Mary would pass away in 1860 while Benjamin, with the help of his daughter Lydia, would live until 1883, living to be 82 years of age. Benjamin and Mary are buried together in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Lynn, Essex County, Massachusetts.
