Biography

Miles was born in 1873 in Penobscot County, Maine. His parents were Henry and Almira (Burr) Scribner.

Miles married twice in his life. He married first to Laura B. Pettengill, the daughter of Columbus L. and Mary Jane (Bradbury) Pettingill, on August 31, 1895, in Island Falls, Maine. Miles and Laura would have a son, Charles Columbus Scribner, born on July 9, 1896 in Island Falls, Maine.

In the 1900 U.S. Census, Miles is alone, living in a boardinghouse in Washington state. Evidently by this time he and Laura had divorced.

By 1908 Miles had relocated to South Dakota where he was married to Margaret Campbell, the daughter of John William and Phoebe M. (Lane) Campbell. Together they would have several children as follows:

Margaret June (Scribner) Owens (1909-1985)

John Burr Scribner (1911-1989)

Henry Campbell Scribner (1913-1985)

Elmira (Scribner) Schiell (1915-1989)

Theodore Roosevelt Scribner (1918-1972)

Lillian Janice (Scribner) Daquila (1921-1986)

In 1917 Miles was living in Perkins County, South Dakota and self-employed as a watch maker while running a watch repair service according to his World War I Draft Registration documents.

By 1930 he was back living in Washington state where he passed away in 1940 at the age of 66 years.
