Biography

I have been doing genealogy research for close to 50 years, ever since my grandfather gifted me a box of family materials that his mother had collected. From then on, I was hooked. I've spent many (happy!) vacation days travelling to sites where my ancestors lived, visiting libraries, court houses and cemeteries to gain information.

I'm really enjoying WikiTree and the chance to present family information and share it with other genealogists.

Is this William James Whittington. Father of a Clement.

I have not seen anything about him having a middle name. He did have a son Clement and a brother James.

Hi newfound cousin! We have common ancestor 7.7 generations back, and I expect that Ancestor will be Col. Philip Hoskins. I descend through his son Bennett Hoskins. Welcome to my world of Ancestry family history from Maryland to (West) Virginia. Our lineage surname changed from Hoskins to Hudkins circa 1820-30!

Hi Anne,

Thank you so much for your contributions. With regard to "Clean Drinking"... That's a 700 acre spread I wish was passed down through my branch of the tree! Who wouldn't like 700 acres in the middle of Chevy Chase, MD? LOL

So right! Pays to be on the right branch.

There were twin Culver males born in 1768 (Benjamin and Joseph), sons of David(4) Colver, siblings of Henry and William. These boys married Porter sisters and had children in Hebron, CT. One source has Benj. Dying in 1796, but another has his child born after 1800. The Porter and Colver lines are well documented to that point by later family genealogists in works youΒ’ve probably seen.

And yet no one has any reliable documentation of Henry Porter CulverΒ’s birth that I can find on-line. Tom

HPC’s father was Benjamin Culver.

Henry’s sister Lucy went to Wisconsin with him. She married Justus Perry Wheeler. Their children were cousins of HPC’s children. The relationship (cousins) was stated in a newspaper article reporting on Ruth Sigourney Culver’s wedding to Frank Sanner. Lucy’s lineage is documented in her daughter’s husband’s family genealogy. The Culver twins and the Porter girls’ marriages are reported in the Porter genealogy. HPC is my 3xGGF. This Culver line suffered greatly from TB. My paternal GM was raised by a paternal aunt after her father died in a train crash in the Bronx in 1907.

Hi Anne!

You've been a member for about a week so I thought I would check in to see how it's going. Have the How-Tos been helpful or left you with questions? Most of us have questions after all that information!

I want to help! Click my name, send me a private message or ask in the comment section of my page. Sometimes links don't work in emails. If that's happened to you, check the public comments on your profile. The links will work from there.

PS To find reliable sources for your profiles, go to the Family Tree & Tools tab; select Genealogy Research and scroll down near the bottom of that list and select Research with RootsSearch. There are over 20 websites to access from there.

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz, Anne!

Since Pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, coordinating with others is essential.

I see you have chosen the same project as I would: US_history. With that I assume you will work on Maryland. Thank you for joining.

If needed here is the Pre-1700 Projects list, located at the top of your page, 4th topic on right, under <Find> and <Projects>.
