Recorded: 27 May 1788 In the name of God Amen I Gross Scruggs of the County of Bedford being sick but in perfect mind & memory do make and Order in this my Last Will & Testament. First I recomend my Soul to the Lord as in the Hands of a Being Infinitely Good and as to my Body I Desire it may be Buried Decently as 'my Ex- ecutrix & Executors hereafter named shall Judge most convenant and as to what Worldy Goods it has pleased God to Bless me within this Life I give & dis- pose of it in the Following Planner and Form.
First of all I give to my Loveing Wife Elizabeth Scruggs (During her Widowhood all my Estate both Real & personal & if it shall not appear to my Execu- tors that my Wife (by Consequence of a Second Mar- riage) is wasteing the Estate it is my Desire that she shall enjoy the whole of my Estate During her Life.
I give to my Wifes Xephew William Arthur son of Benjamin Arthur all my Estate Real & personal (after my Wifes Decease) except the Legacie here- after ]\Ientioned with this Reserve, that my Executrix & Executors shall have a Reasonable time to pay all my Just Debts and then to have a Reasonable time to pay the said Legecie.
I give to Gross Scruggs son of Thomas Scruggs fifty pounds Currant Money.
And Lastly I appoint my wife Executrix and my Brother Thomas Scruggs and Edmund Winston Ex- ecutors of this my Last Will & Testament and do here- by Revoke all former Wills by me made made <& De- clare this my Last Will & Testament in Witness Whereof I have Hereunto set my Hand & Seal this I2th day of July one Thousand Seven Hundred & Eighty Seven.

An act of assembly, passed March 1758, the 31st year of the reign of King George II, some of the militia were called out for service in the early days of the French and Indian War, Annexed to this act, was a schedule of the names of the militia officers and soldiers, and the citizens who furnished provisions to that militia. This is the schedule pertaining to Bedford County.
