Caroline was born in 1818. Her age in the 1850 census reflects a date of birth about 1811. She was the daughter of William Scurlock and Rhoda Simmons.
Caroline was married to John Manly Files in Talbot County, Georgia in 1834. She and John moved to Macon County in Alabama. They were living there in 1840 near to Caroline's brother Priestly Scurlock and Caroline's sister in law, Lucena Scurlock widow of Daniel Scurlock.
Her parents were living in Muscogee County, Georgia since about 1837. Her parents were visiting with John Scurlock who also lived in Muscogee County. They had been there visiting for a month when her father suffered a fall from his carriage and did not recover.
Her father made his will in Aug of 1840 in Muscogee County, Georgia. He died there in September that same year.
Caroline's mother remained with her son John for a period of time after the death of her husband. She then went to live with Caroline's sister, Catharine also known as Kitty Scurlock and her husband Joseph Collins. They had moved from Harris County in Georgia to Russell County in Alabama.
Caroline was named as a legatee along with her mother, Rhoda Scurlock in the will of her father.
Two of her daughters were born in Alabama. Caroline and John then moved to Texas. Caroline had another daughter born in Texas. Her husband died in Texas about 1847. She is found living in Titus County, Texas in 1850.
Her mother, Rhoda, had moved to Coosa County in Alabama after 1850 and was still living with Kitty and Joseph Collins. She died in March the next year in Coosa County.
Caroline moved with her three daughters to Shreveport in Caddo Parrish in Louisiana after 1850. They were living there in 1860 and Caroline was a seamstress. She passed away in 1877.
