The first source cited below is a 1973 book by Katie Maud Seale Ellis. She was the only daughter of Alfred Louis Seale and Jemima Cassandra Williams. She states that her father was born 31 May 1851. Find a Grave has a photograph of the headstone that shows the correct date of death, 8 Apr 1900; however, the stone shows a 6 Apr 1849 date of birth. The 1900 U.S. enumeration, also cited below, shows a birth date of May 1852. It seems most likely that the 31 May 1851 is the correct one—we may never learn where the 6 Apr 1849 came from—and I suspect that headstone was placed after Katie Maud's death in 1982.
