Abraham was born about 1794, in South Carolina. It is possible Abraham could have been born as early as 1792, based on Abraham being 21 years of age when he was a witness to a deed dated the 16th of November, 1813 in Fairfield County, South Carolina for the sale of 78 acres of land by James Craig to James Seale.[1] Abraham's ages in the 1860 and 1870 differ by a decade. Abraham is the son of Elijah Seale and Nancy Harrison.
Abraham witnessed a deed in Fairfield County, South Carolina on the 12th of November, 1814, for the sale of land by Elijah Seale to William Cloud for 73 acres on Dutchman's Creek[2]
Abraham and Greenbury Seal were witnesses to a deed dated the 11th of November,1814 in Fairfield County, South Carolina for the sale of land by Asa Bell to William Cloud, for 75 acres on Dutchman's Creek. Abraham appeared in Court in Fairfield County, South Carolina on the 14th of November, 1814 and ". . . made oath that he saw Asa Bell sign seal and deliver the within conveyance and that he and Berry Seal in the presents of each other witnessed the due execution thereof . . ."[3]
Abraham moved his family to Alabama, settling in Shelby county by 1820.
Abraham appears in the 1820 Federal census in Shelby county Alabama, Abraham's household appeared as follows: 1 male age over 21, 1 female age over 21, 2 females age less than 21 (Martha and Amelia).[4]
Abraham and Greenberry Seale, and James Musick on the 6th of June 1825 gave a Gift Deed of land to Meredith Seale and West Allen Seale with " . . . the following conditions viz: that Nancy Seal the natural mother of Meredith & West Allen Seal shall have the benefit of said land until they are twenty one years of age at which time they are to have said land . . .". The legal description of the land was: ". . . all that part of land to wit: the East half of the North East half quarter section thirteen township twenty two Range one west, in the district of land sold at Tuscaloosa, in the state of Alabama. Also the west half of the north west quarter, of section thirteen township twenty two range one west, in the said district as above, . . "[5]
Abraham appears in the 1830 Federal Census in Shelby County, Alabama, Abraham's household appears as follows: 1 male under age 5; 2 males ages 5 thru 9; 1 male age 30 thru 39; 1 female under age 5; 3 females ages 10 thru 14; and 1 female age 30 thru 39.[6]
Abraham purchased 39.85 acres of land (legal description: NW1/4 of SE1/4 Sec 2, T20 R1W) in Shelby County, Alabama from the Federal Government under land patent Certificate No. 16083. Abraham purchased the land on the 21st of September 1835 for $1.25 per acre, Purchase money listed as $49.82. The land patent Certificate was granted on the 15th of March 1839. [7]
Abraham entered into an Indenture on the 13th day of March 1844 with Green B. Seal. Abraham was indebted to ". . . Bryant Rushing in the sum of $2,050 dollars by promissory note dated 18 Feb 1840 & due the 25 day of Dec. next . . . G. B. Seal is the security . . . parcel of land the west quarter of the south east quarter of section two in township 22 of range 1 west situated in said county of Tuscaloosa land district containing 39 acres 85/100 acres . . . note not paid G.B. Seal to proceed & sell said tract of land & premises at public auction . . ."[8]
Abraham and Clarissy sold to Joseph Roper and John M McClanahan on the 18th of March, 1848, for $140 dollars :". . . the following described land lying and being in said county known as the North West fourth of the South East fourth of Section No. Two Township 22 Range one West . . ."[9]
Abraham purchased 40.03 1/2 acres of land (legal description: NE1/4 of SW1/4 of Sec 20, T20) in Shelby County, Alabama from the Federal Government under land patent Certificate No. 27781. Abraham purchased the land on the 15th August,1853 for $1.25 per acre. Purchase money listed as $50.04. The land patent Certificate was granted on the 15th of November 1853. Note: Abraham's surname on the Certificate and in the Land Tract Record Book is listed "Seels". [10]
Abraham purchased 80.07 acres of land (legal descriptions: SE1/4 of NW1/4 and NW1/4 of SW1/4 of Sec 20 T20 R1W) in Shelby County, Alabama from the Federal Government under land patent Certificate No. 31731. Abraham purchased the land on the 2nd of January, 1855, for 12.5 cents per acre. Purchase money listed as $10.01. The land patent Certificate was granted on the 1st of June 1858. [11]
Abraham appears in the 1860 Federal Census in Shelby County, Alabama. Abraham's household appears as follows: Abraham, age 54, born South Carolina, occupation: farmer;
Clarrissa age 54, born South Carolina;
Nancy age 32, born South Carolina;
Minerva age 21, born Alabama;
Mahala age 17, born Alabama.[12]
Abraham appears in the 1866 Alabama State Census as follows: Abraham Seale, 1 male age 60 to 70, & 2 females ages 20 to 30.[13]
Abraham, age 76 appears in the 1870 Federal Census, Shelby county, Alabama in the household of MEM Jones.[14]
Abraham died the 19th of February 1873, in Shelby County, Alabama. Abraham is buried in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Shelby County, Alabama.[15][16]
