Seaman was listed as missing in action following the Battle of Reams Station, Aug 1864. His service record indicates he died of disease at Salisbury, North Carolina on 12 Dec 1864. He died with the rank of corporal.
Joseph lies buried with his parents at Bloomingburg Rural Cemetery, Orange County, New York.
