Carey, Charles Henry. 'History of Oregon'. The Pioneer Historical Publishing Company. 1922. page 357. "CHARLES B. SEAMAN Charles B. Seaman, who for many years was engaged in the grocery business in Portland, was born in Ohio and passed away November 12, 1900. He was a son of Milton and Rebecca (Baldwin) Seaman and continued a resident of the east until 1862, when he determined to try his fortune on the Pacific coast and by way of the Isthmus of Panama made his way to Oregon. ... He took up his abode within its (Portland) borders and turned his attention to general merchandising for a time and then concentrated his efforts upon the grocery business, in which he engaged for many years. With the settlement and development of the city his patronage grew, his enterprise and reliability securing for him a large trade. As the years went by his business reached profitable proportions, enabling him to leave his family in comfortable financial circumstances. It was in 1862, the year of his removal to the west, that Mr. Seaman was united in marriage to Miss Samantha J. Waldron, a daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth (Sleppy) Waldron, who were natives of Pennsylvania. .... To Mr. and Mrs. Seaman were born six children: Mabel F., the widow of George York; Capitola G., the widow of Charles Forney; Lavella, the widow of John W. Marshall of Portland; Milton W. of Portland; Norma G.; and Arlie. .... For fifty-eight years the Seaman family has been well known in Portland, ever occupying a position of social prominence, while Charles B. Seaman also made valuable contribution to the business activity of the city for many years."

Gaston, Joseph. 'Portland, Oregon, Its History and Builders' Vol. 2. Chicago-Portland: The S. J. Clarke Publishing Co. 1911. "CHARLES BALDWIN SEAMAN. .... He was a native of Ohio and a son of Milton and Rebecca Seaman, the latter a descendant of a noble English family. The father was a steamboat man of Ohio, of considerable prominence. Charles Baldwin Seaman spent his boyhood days in his native state and his father being wealthy, was accorded the advantages of a college education. As a young man, however, he came to the northwest and for a number of years was employed as a clerk in Portland and in Oregon City, continuing in the service of others until he felt that his capital, saved from his earnings, was sufficient to justify him in engaging in the grocery business on his own account. He then established a store and his business ability, enterprise and capable management were evidenced in the success that followed his labors. Gradually he developed a large trade and continued in business until two years prior to his death, when he retired with a handsome competence. On the 1st of January, 1863, Mr. Seaman was united in marriage in Portland to Miss Samantha J. Waldron, who was born in Butler county, Pennsylvania, in 1844, a daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth (Sleppy) Waldron. .... (long paragraph on ancestry of Samantha Waldron, copied in her notes) ...on the first of January 1863 gave her hand in marriage to Charles B. Seaman. Unto them were born six children: Mabel, now the widow of George York, and a resident of Kent, Washington; Capitola, the widow of Charles Forney; Laella, the widow of John W. Marshall; Milton Waldron, who is business manager for the Baker Theater Company; Norma G., engaged in the real-estate business in Portland; and Arlie, also of Portland. The death of Mr. Seaman occurred when he was about sixty-seven years of age. Mrs. Seaman is still living in Portland, having been a resident of this section of the state for fifty-eight years. ..."
