John Searl was born on 06 May 1711, Brooklyn Township, Windham County, Connecticut. He was married on 13 August 1741, Windham, Connecticut, to Margaret Cooke (b. 20 July 1722, Windsor?, Connecticut; d. 1776?, Arlington, Vermont), daughter of Theophilus Cooke and Mindwell Holcomb. John and Margaret moved in 1762, to Arlington, Vermont.
