Abraham Searle was born in Stansted, Lower Canada May,12th 1829. There he remained until 1843, when with his father he moved to Ashtabsis County Ohio. There he remained for a number of years and then moved to Rock County where his father was one of the first settlers. He worked with his father on the farm for 7 years and on May 4th 1850 he was married to Miss Sophia Kittredge at Beloit, Rock County, Wisconsin. They remained until 1853 when they moved to Ohio. After fixing there for 6 years they again moved to Rock County Wisconsin. He worked on his father's farm for two years and then moved to Vernon County Wisconsin where he has since resided.
When the call for volunteers came in 1861 he, like all the Patriotic men, was eager to help to the defense of his country. And on the 24th day of December 1863 he enlisted. He was called to Madison and remain there for almost a month and was then called South near Calpepper Courthouse, Virginia. He was there about a month when the regiment was ordered to the front on the second day of the Battle of the Wilderness. He was wounded by losing the middle finger of his right hand he was conveyed to City point and thence to Washington and from there to Findley's hospital. He was there but a few days when he was granted a 60-day furlough.
When the 60 days expired he was again called back to Washington and was kept in the hospital few days. After leaving the hospital he was in many skirmishes but the worst was the Weldon raid. He then return to his regiment and remained for few days when he was ordered to headquarters and was given the position of salesman and assistant commissary which he held until he was discharged at the close of the war in 1865. From that time he has been engaged in farming and Vernon County until this death which occurred May 28th, 1899.
When Abraham Searles was born on May 13, 1829, in Quebec, Canada, his father, Cyrus, was 21 and his mother, Roxana, was 21. He married Sophia Kittredge on May 4, 1850, in Beloit, Wisconsin. They had six children during their marriage. He died on May 28, 1899, in Hillsboro, Wisconsin, at the age of 70, and was buried there.
