In 1860, Elmira was sixteen (16) living in her parent's home in Western District, Washington, Virginia, United States.^[3]

On July 29, 1863. Elmira married Montague A. Whitt in Washington, Tennessee, United States.^[4]

They had six (6) children together.^[5]

In 1870, Elmira and Montague live in Grainger, Tennessee, United States with three (3) sons.^[6]

On June 20, 1879, Montague died at the age of forty-four (44) in Hamblen County, Tennessee, USA.^[7]

In the 1880 Census, Emira is shown as widowed and her occupation is Keeping House. She and her six (6) children were living in Morristown, Hamblen, Tennessee, United States.^[8]
