  • The Harwich Independent issue of 6 Nov 1873, notes: "Capt Jonathan L Sears, now landlord of the Standish House in North Bridgewater, but last year in command of the brig Eliza Stevens of Boston, received a handsome gold watch from the Canadian Government in acknowledgement of his service in rescuing the survivors of the schooner Seriole of Liverpool in Sep of 1872." Jonathan received a share in the estate of his grandfather, Jonathan Nickerson in 1862.
