Biography

John Sevey was born, probably at Scarborough, Maine, say 1764, the son of Joseph Sevey and Sarah Scott; [1] [2] died, possibly between 1820, when a John Sevey Jr. was enumerated in the USC of Machias, Maine, p. 299, [3] implying the presence of a John Sr., and 1830, when John Jr. is no longer found in the USC. He may have died before 4 Aug 1824, when his son John sold land in Machias and was not termed John Jr. (Washington Co. Deed 27:363). [2]

He married (1) at Machias, 17 Oct 1787, Rebecca West, [2] [4] [5] born at Cornwallis, Nova Scotia, 15 Dec 1767, the daughter of Jabez West and Ruth Tupper, [6] [7] [8] died at Machias, 11 May 1801. [2]

He married (2) at Machias, 7 Aug 1803, Abigail Libby. [5] [9]
