James married Mary Ann Boydell on 5 June 1884 in St Mary's church Leigh, Lancashire.[4]
In 1891 James was living in Pennington, Lancashire with his wife and 2 sons.[2]
In the 1901 census James (age 40) was the married head of household in Leigh, Lancashire, England.[5]
In 1911 James was living at 56 Union Street Leigh with his wife and family. He was an elementary school caretaker. [6]
