Matilda Amelia Seddon was born in late 1848/early 1849 ^[1] in Liverpool, Lancashire, England, the daughter of James Seddon and Elizabeth Gosling.

In 1851, recorded in the census as Elizabeth, she was with her parents, 2 siblings and an uncle in West Derby, Lancashire.^[2]

In 1861 she was with her mother and siblings at 28, Wilson Square, Newton, Manchester, Lancashire.^[3]

Research Notes

The recording of her name as Elizabeth in 1851 is odd, but the family composition (in particular with her brother Howard having an unusual name, and the birthplaces of the different family members) leaves me in no doubt that Elizabeth and Amelia are one and the same person.
