Biography

Ann Siddall aka Siddorn aka Siddon was born in 1863 in Newton, Middlewich, Cheshire, England to William Siddorn/Siddall/etc and Mary Palin. Her birth was registered in Northwich, Cheshire in the first quarter of the year [as Ann Siddall], with mother's maiden name Palin.^[1]

In 1871 Ann Siddorn (age 8, Scholar) lived at Newton Heath in Newton with her father William (53, Salt Boiler), mother Mary (44), four siblings: Eliza (16, Servant), John (14, Gardener), George (11, Scholar), and Henry (5, Scholar), niece Louisa (3), and nephew Alfred (1).^[2]

In 1881 Ann Siddon (age 18) lived at Bowling Green Road in Newton with her father William (68, Labourer Salt Works), mother Mary (58), two brothers: William (29, Labourer Agricultural) and Henry (15, Labourer General), niece Louisa (14), two nephews [or possibly one nephew and one son]: Alfred (10, Scholar) and Albert (0), and brother-in-law William Starkey (29, Labourer Agricultural).^[3]

Ann and her widowed brother-in-law William Starkey were in a relationship from at least 1882, though they didn't marry (they are listed as married in 1891, but she is listed as his mistress in 1901, and then in 1911 is listed as 'living as wife').

In 1891 Ann Starkey (age 29) lived at Bowling Green Road in Newton with her husband William (38, Bricklayers Labourer) and four sons: Reuben (9, Scholar), Arthur (6), Fred (4), and Arnold (1), as well as lodger [Ann's nephew] Alfred Siddall (20, Joiners Labourer).^[4]

In 1901 Ann Siddall (age 38 [relationship to head of household 'Mistress']) lived in Middlewich with her partner William Starkey (49, General Labourer Estate Work) and seven of their children [all with surname Siddall]: Arthur (16, Butcher's Labourer), Fred (13), Arnold (11), Joe (8), Emily (6), Charles (3), and William (0).^[5]

In 1911 Annie Siddall (age 48 [relationship to head of household 'Living As Wife']) lived in Middlewich with her partner William Starkey (58, General Labourer Builders) and six of their children [all with surname Siddall]: Fred (21, General Labourer / Ex Soldier Out of Work), Arnold (21, Canal Labourer), Joshep (18, General Labourer Wine and Spirit Merchant), Charley (13, School), William (9), and Mary (7).^[6]

Ann Siddall passed away in 1934, aged 71 years. Her death was registered in Northwich in the first quarter of the year.^[7] Her partner William Starkey passed away in the same year.
