Biography

Roy Vernon Seely was the first child born to Vernon George Seely and Ethel (Bryant) Seely. He was the first of his father's family to be born in America. His parents divorced and Roy grew up in Boston with his mother, stepfather Henry Dunton and 7 younger brothers: Richard Seely, Hartwell Seely, Lewis Dunton, Arthur Dunton, Henry Dunton, Paul Dunton and Marcus Dunton. Roy loved his stepfather as a real dad.

Roy and his brother Richard loved to sing. They would win contests in school. But more impressive, they sang on the radio! Al Jolson songs, according to Roy's oldest son, Rick.

Roy was very good at taking care of babies. His mother suffered severe Post-Partum Depression after her sons were born, especially the younger ones, and Roy, as the oldest, took care of the new baby and all his younger brothers until she came back home. Stepfather Henry was most likely working to support the large family during this time.

He joined the Seabee's (United States Navy Construction Battalion). Through a Navy friend, he was introduced to Vinita Dunn. They married 5 weeks after meeting and have 4 sons. He was stationed in Subic Bay when he learned that his first child had been born.

He worked in construction and loved God, gardening, and reading.

Roy died from lung cancer, only 11 days after diagnosis, at his home in Buena Park, at the age of 65. He is survived by his wife Vinita, sons: Richard (Cynthia), Timothy (Lori), Todd (Julie), David (Laraine), 15 grandchildren, and at the time, 1 great-grandchild. (He now has 24 great-grandchildren.)

His memorial service was held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Buena Park, California. There was a gathering at the apartment building they Managed afterwards.
