Christian was born in 1666. He passed away in 1740. He was the second Grand Chancellor of Denmark. Sehested was the son of Privy Councilor Christoffer Sehested (1628-1699) and his wife Merete (1631-1706, nee Urne).
He was since May 26, 1701 with Charlotte Amalie Gersdorff (born April 5, 1685, † February 15, 1757), the daughter of Frederik Gersdorff (1650-1691) and Elisabeth Sophie Skeel (1660-1690), married.
