George Seigert is an Anzac who served in World War One.

George William Seigert

George William Seigert was born on 19 May 1895 Burra, South Australia, Australia [1], the son of George Seigert and Amanda Harris. he was the brother of Agnes Sophia Seigert, John Alick Seigert, David Gordon Seigert, Robert Elliott Seigert, John Alick Seigert and Charles Edwin Seigert.

Military Service

George enlisted to serve in the Australian Armed Sevices on 29 September 1916, Adelaide, South Australia and served in the 10th Infantry Battalion as a Private. His Unit embarked from Adelaide, South Australia, on board HMAT A19 "Afric" on 7 November 1916 and he was mobilised to the Western Front [2][3].

He was 22 years old when he was killed in action on 21 September 1917 at Polygon Wood, Belgium while fighting during World War One. His place of burial is unknown but he is remembered, and his name is memorialised on The Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial (Commonwealth Memorial to the Missing of the Ypres Salient) (Panel 17), The Australian War Memorial, Roll of Honour, the Burra Memorial, the Hallett Memorial and the National War Memorial (South Australia). For his service to the country George was posthumously awarded The 1914-15 Star, The British War Medal and The Victory Medal and his parents were given the Memorial Scroll and Memorial Plaque.
