GEORGE JOHN SEILER JR. was born May 5, 1927 in McIntosh, SD to George R, Sr. and Amelia (Labor) Seiler. He attended Hump Butte Country School through the eighth grade and graduated from McIntosh High School in 1945. During his high school graduation, his mother accepted his Diploma on his behalf because George had left for Basic Training Camp entering the U.S. Coast Guard in San Diego, CA on August 16, 1945. He was discharged as a Merchant Marine on May 24, 1946. Following his discharge he was taking the train working his way home when he recognized a local charming young lady from back home. George got re-acquainted with Rose Nehl. Upon George's arrival back home he began farming and ranching with this brother Jim and also courting Rose. On October 15, 1949, that charming lady, Rose Nehl and George were united in marriage at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Watauga. Following their marriage, they began their life together on the Holcum place. They farmed, ranched and raised their family there. They were avid McIntosh Tiger sports fans. They followed their children and grandchildren through several nail biting sports activities. This was a highlight in their lives! They continued to live on the place and when his health began to fail, was able to continue to be in his own farm home cared for by his loving family and special care givers. He passed from this life on Monday morning, October 7, 2013 at the West River Regional Medical Center in Hettinger, ND at the age of 86 years, 5 months, 2 days. George loved talking about farming and ranching. He loved to tell stories or tell a tall tale or play a trick or two on someone. He loved Corson County Fair tractor pulls and later in life, team penning with his favorite horse, "Ace". At family gatherings, George was the first to grab a deck of cards and play whist into the night. He was known to carry on Amelia's (his mother) tactics of cheating!!!George will always be remembered as a very compassionate family man who had a lot of care and respect for the animals and the land. He was a member of St. Bonaventure's Catholic Church, a trustee for many years. He also served as a Corson County Commissioner and on the McIntosh-Watauga Equity Elevator Board for several years. In his younger years he enjoyed boating on the Grand River, fishing, and riding horse. He and Rose entertained the neighbors with barn dances at the ranch. But most of all he enjoyed times spent with his family.
