Biography

Early Life

Henry Sejda was born October 17, 1913 at home at 511 Fields Ave, Hammond, Lake County, Indiana. Henry was the second son of Leon and Kammila Sejda.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11]

Henry Sejda completed grade school at St. Mary's Grammar School, Hammond, Indiana on June 17, 1928[12] and graduated from Hammond High School, Hammond, Indiana on May 26, 1933.[13]

Sports

Henry Sejda was active in team sports during and after high school. In the 1932 Hammond High School Dunes yearbook, he is pictured with the basketball team.[14] It said:

Henry Sejda - "Sadie" was about the scrappiest little fellow on the team. He had plenty of pluck which was evidenced by the fact that he stayed out for four years and practiced hard, although he never made the regular team This is an example of the kind of pluck it takes to stay behind a team and back it to the limit.[15]

Henry married Irene Kazmierski on June 20, 1942 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Hammond, Indiana.[16][8][17]

Henry and Irene had four daughters. The eldest, Mary Sejda is no longer living.[18]

Henry J. Sejda's Professional Engineer Certificate

Henry Sejda was an Engineer, retiring as Chief Engineer at the Cee Kay Engineering Company.[19][20][9] He was self-taught and became a Professional Engineer in 1967.[21][22]

Death & Legacy

Henry Sejda died January 12, 1980 at the Community Hospital in Munster, Indiana[8][9]. He was buried on January 15, 1980 at Holy Cross Cemetery, Calumet City, Illinois[8][9] following a Funeral Mass at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Munster, Lake County, Indiana[9].

June 17, 1928 - completed grade school at St. Mary's Grammar School, Hammond, Lake County, Indiana.[12]

1930 - appeared in the 1930 U.S. Census in the household of his father, Leon Sejda in Hammond, Lake County, Indiana.[3]

May 26, 1933 - graduated from Hammond High School, Hammond, Lake County, Indiana.[13]

1935 - worked at W.B. Conkey publishers, Hammond, Lake County, Indiana.[26]

Nov 1936 - May 1939 - worked at Edward Valves, Inc where his duties were to layout and detail high pressure valves and valve parts.[21][27]

July 1939 - August 1948 - worked at Davidson Manufacturing, finishing as Chief Engineer. His duties were to design printing presses, folders, feeders, tools and fixtures required for production and also to supervise engineering department and the design of above products, to estimate costs, set up manufacturing procedures and make plant layout.[21]

about 1940 - before 1955 - resided at 6944 Columbia Ave., Hammond, Lake County, Indiana.[4][11][28][29][30]

1940 - appeared in the 1940 U.S. Census in the household of his mother, Kammila Sejda in Hammond, Lake County, Indiana.[4]

June 20, 1942 - married Irene Regina Kazmierski at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Hammond, Lake County, Indiana. The witnesses were Clara Kazmierski, Lorraine Sejda, Mary Gorczyca, Walter Sejda, Lillian Wojciechowski and Edmond Kazmierski.[16][11]

November 1943 - became a member of the American Society of Tool Engineers.[29]

National Radio Institute Servicing Diploma

April 15, 1948 - completed Practical Radio and Television Servicing Course.[31]

September 1948 - December 1949 - worked at Linmar Products where his duties were to supervise shop operations, to design new products and tools required for production, to set up manufacturing procedures and to estimate costs. [21]

Early 1950 - briefly unemployed in early 1950, entitled to $20/week in unemployment ($215 in 2020 Dollars). In his unemployment application, he reported he made $4,940 in 1948 (which was abut $53,000 in 2020 dollars).[30]

February 1950 - became a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers.[32]

May 1950 - April 1951 - designer at Clearing Machine Corporation where his duties included designing and layout of mechanical and hydraulic presses and to check design details of presses design by others.[21]

September 1951 - April 1952 - Chief Engineer at Richlite Manufacturing Corp. Described his duties as setting up shop for production of auto water pumps and to supervise shop operations, design and supervise design of new pumps and the tools required for production.[21]

September 1952 - April 1953 - worked as a project engineer at Consolidated Hammer Dry Plate and Film Company, coordinating the work of the shop and engineering department, setting up assembly procedures for assembly of photographic printer, setting up inspection and testing procedure for above printer and refrigeration units.[21]

May 1953 - beginning of full time employment at Cee Kay Engineering Company, 7930 South Chicago Ace, Chicago, Cook County, Illinois after working on-and-off since May 1951. His duties were to check design layouts, calculations & drawings so that the machines may be built with the least amount of trouble and operate satisfactory. Eventually he he became Chief Engineer and was promoted to Vice President around January 1967. He had retired by the time of his death in 1980.[21][19][20][33]

c1953 - joined Knights of Columbus, Council 726 and remained a member until his death.[34]

before 1955 until 1980 - resided at 238 Belden Place, Munster, Lake County, Indiana.[21][35][36][8][37]

August 1, 1967 - awarded Professional Engineer certification.[21]

January 12, 1980 - died from a heart attack at Community Hospital in Munster, Lake County, Indiana.[8][9]
