Baptised St. Thomas Mount, Madras, India, April 5, 1844.

At 27 John married firstly Martha Moncrieff (aged 15), father Charles at Seetabuldee (sic, perhaps Sitabuldi?), Bengal, India Dec 28, 1870. Martha died 7 months later, aged 16.

On Oct 23, 1872 John married next Mercy Ward age 20 (father William Ward) at Fort St. George, Madras, India. Mercy died Sept 26, 1878 in Madras. She had one daughter, Caroline Amelia and one son John William. Both died young.

John married thirdly Ann Letitia Boyle (father James Boyle), age 15, July 14, 1880 at Madras, India. They had two children Jane Louisa and Ernest Walter.

The only child of John to reach adulthood was Jane Louisa Sellers married Brown.
