Biography

Hubert Arthur Selman was born in High Green on 27 November 1902 and baptised in Worsbrough, Yorkshire just over a month later on 28 December, the son of George and Emma Watson Selman, of High Green. His father was a blacksmith.[1]

Hubert appeared on the 1911 census in a five-room house on either Mortomley Lane (as written on the back of the schedule) or Chapeltown Road, Mortomley near Sheffield (as written by Hubert's father, George Selman). [2]

Hubert appeared in the 1921 census in Mortomley Lane, Chapeltown, Sheffield.[3]

In 1939, Hubert was living in his newly-built house where he would live for the rest of his life - 'Fairbourne', Treeton Lane, Aughton, near Rotherham, Yorkshire - with his wife, Dorothy M Selman and their young son. He was working as an assistant colliery engineer and draughtsman.[4]

After 1947, Hubert worked as a draughtsman for the National Coal Board in Yorkshire.

Hubert died in Aughton on 28 April 1980.[5][6]
