Simon Selmes was a Freemason and initiated into the Wellington Lodge at Rye, Sussex, England 17th October 1823. Occupation: Baker [5]
In 1829, he was renting a house and Bakehouse belonging to William Hollis Jr[6]
In 1832-1834, Simon Selmes, a baker, was listed at Mermaid Street, Rye, Sussex in the trade directories. N.B. Usher Back was also a baker listed in same road.[7]

Simon died 20th November 1861[9]. Aged 82 years, of Church Square, Rye, Sussex. Formerly a baker. Died of Dropsy. Informant: Harriott Selmes of 39 High Street, Rye[10] and was buried on the 26th November 1861 at St. Mary, Rye, Sussex, England. Aged 82 years. [11]
