Abraham Selover was christened on 29 Aug 1697 in New Amsterdam Du, N.Y.C., NY. He died before 1749 in NJ.

He has reference number 3M86-F9.

He was born in New York City, New York, NY.

Abraham was bapt. in the New Amsterdam D. R. Ch. with Dirk Hooglan and Anna de Mill as sponsors.

He married in New Jersey, Sophia Schermerhorn, daughter of Lucas Schermerhorn and Elizabeth Damen.

Lucas was the son of Jacob Jansen Schermerhorn, a prominent trader of Baeverwyck, and his wife, Jannetie Egmont, daugher of Cornelis Segerse Egmont Van Voorhout.

This Lucas Scherherhorn branch was the "lost Branch" until the records of the births of the children were recently found on the back on two old maps.

These are now in the Rutgers Library, New Brunswinck.

Mr. Richard Schermerhor, compiler, believes that this branch went to Bedford Co. Pa. where we also find an Abraham Selover, presumably a grandson of the above, Abraham.

Abraham died before 1749, as his widow, Sophie, married at that time, Sept. 6, 1749, William Allen.

Abraham was living in the Raritan District in 1723, as Rev. Freeman's account of a visit of some of the members of Freylinghuysen's Church, to him, making charges against their pastor, on Mar. 12,1723;

and a list of the signers to the complaint in 1725 against Freylinghuysen, includes the name of Abraham Selover. His name appears in a list of debtors of the estate of Benjamin Burt, July 24, 1732.

In a list of settlers of West Jersy, we find "Abraham Slown, 50 acres".

Membership records of the Harlingen D.R. Ch. show Abraham Slover was recieved June 19, 1728 on confession and on Nov. 6, 1728, Lucas and Sophia Schermerhorn were received on confession.

While baptism records of only three children have been found, it seems quite sure that there were other children, and as there was a large migration from western New Jersey to Virginia and Pennsylvania about 1750, we feel sure that the Jacob Slover of Virginia was a son, especially since the neighbors and relatives of the Slovers and Schermerhorns of western N.J. are found in Bedford Co. Pa. where we also find Jacob's son, Abraham. He was married to Sophia SCHERMERHORN about 1725 in NJ.
