Biography

Birth and Parents

Maud de Senlis was born about 1125, [1] daughter of Robert de Clare and his wife, Matilda de Senlis.

She is named by Keat-Rohan [2] as Matildis (II) de Senlis, daughter of Matilda de Senlis and Robert fitz Richard de Clare, suggesting that she was first known by the de Senlis surname.

Keats-Rohan notes that she appears in the Rotuli de Dominabus of 1185 as a 50 year old widow, which would place her birth at around 1135. [2]

First Marriage to William

She married William d'Aubeney, son and heir of William d'Albini and his wife, Cecily Bigod, and bore him a son, William and a daughter, Maud, before her husband's death in 1167.[1]

Keats-Rohan refers to her husband as William II de Albini Brito of Belvoir, who died in 1168 [2]

Boyer refers to her as Maud Fitz Robert de Clare and her husband as William d'Albini II, called "le Breton" or "Meschin". [3]

Second Marriage to Richard

Maud remained a widow for more than a decade, marrying Richard de Luvetot in or after 1180.[1]

Richard de Luvetot, Knight, was of Sheffield, Aston, Aughton (in Avon) Bramp;ton en la Morthen, Handsworth, Todwick, and Treeton, Yorkshire; and Worksop, Nottinghamshire. [1]

Issue

She was the mother of William III de Albini Brito [4]

Boyer provides a longer list of children:

  1. William, d. 1 May 1238, m. (1) Margery de Umfreville, m. (2) Agatha Trussebot, who d. 1247 [3]
  2. Maud, eldest daughter, m. emperor[3]
  3. Roger[3]
  4. Robert[3]
  5. Alice, m. Asceline de Walterville.[3]

Research Notes

In Domesday Descendants by Keats-Rohan, [2] she occurs under the surname de Senlis, not de Clare or Filia Robertus, so she must be mentioned in the records using her mother's name, which would mean Senlis is the correct LNAB. [5]

Maud De Senlis, born about 1125. She married (1st) William D'Aubeney (or D'Aubeny, De Albeney), son and heir of William D'Aubeney, by Cecily, daughter of Roger Bigod. They had one son, William, and one daughter, Maud. William D'Aubeney died in 1167. His widow, Maud, married (2nd) in or after 1180 (as his 2nd) wife) Richard De Luvetot.

Note: D. Richardson mentions Maud De Senlis, having one son, William d'Aubeney, and one daughter, Maud D'aubeney, by William d'Aubeney. Richardson does not mention that she had any children with Richard De Luvetot, her second husband.

Thank you!

Through the attached profiles that are linked.. it is (currently) showing that this Maud Senlis is the daughter of Maud Senlis Senlis-48 that married Saher de Quincy Quincy-40.

Are there any documents showing who this Maud Senlis's parents are... It's clear that there is a Maud Senlis attached to Saher de Quincy... So does he have a wife, and a daughter named Maud Senlis? Or are people confusing this Maud Senlis with Maud Senlis, Daughter of Simon (Senlis) de Senlis I and Maud (Huntingdon) of Scotland?

Clare-538 and Senlis-48 appear to represent the same person because: Clare-538 had been attached to Saher de Quincey as father. Clearly wrong. Please merge as she cannot be anyone else. DOB just a guess.

Detaching from Saher de Quincey as father which has to be wrong. Probably meant to be Senlis-48.
