Richard Sephton was born on 18 Jun 1788, and christened on 6 Jul 1788 at the church of St Mary the Virgin in Prescot, Lancashire. He was the son of Thomas and Margaret Sephton. His father's occupation was recorded as husbandman, and the family's address as Eccleston.

Richard married Martha Pennington on 13 Dec 1813 at St John's Church in Liverpool, Lancashire. Richard was a farmer of Liverpool; Martha was a spinster of the local parish. The witnesses were William Eaves and Alice Sephton.

Their son Thomas was born on 26 Jun 1815, and christened on 23 Jul 1815 at Rainford Chapel of Ease in the parish of Prescot, Lancashire. His father's occupation was recorded as husbandman, and the family's address as Eccleston.

Their son Richard was born on 16 Apr 1817, and christened on 29 Jun 1817 at Rainford Chapel of Ease in the parish of Prescot, Lancashire. His father's occupation was recorded as husbandman, and the family's address as Eccleston.

Their daughter Ann was born on 30 Jun 1818, and christened on 26 Jul 1818 at Rainford Chapel of Ease in the parish of Prescot, Lancashire. Her father's occupation was recorded as husbandman, and the family's address as Eccleston.
