Hi I'm Dorothy, a WikiTree Mentor. Hope you're enjoying our site. If your still not sure about the site, "How To Use WikiTree" is a good starting point, http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/How_to_use_WikiTree . Check this page out as well: Getting Started . We also have a Help Index with links to topics you may have questions on.
Also don't forget to ask a question at our G2G forum if you couldn't find an answer on our help pages, (menu top right of your profile). You can use the G2G forum to get assistance from other Genealogy volunteers to find a relative if you hit a brick wall. *Please leave another note here if you want to join us. Dorothy
Hello Nigel, Volunteering is indication that you want to do genealogy using the wikitree program, please make a statement about your intent to help accurately grow our site. There is no obligation to volunteer if you just want to look at wikitree data. I am very glad that I became a member of wikitree; it has not been filled with errors as you find on other sites. Please rest assured that you are welcome to just look at the data, but once confirmed as member of wikitree you will be able to see and do more. Best regards, Marshall
Welcome as a guest to WikiTree! We're growing a FREE worldwide family tree, striving for ONE collaborative profile per person. If you would like to help us grow our tree through Collaboration, you can do so by volunteering. You only need to click the volunteer button when you are truly interested in genealogy and want to find or add information about your family. Our volunteer “greeters” monitor each web surfer guest entry in an attempt to keep spammers out and they read each statement made by a guest. So when volunteering, please post a statement, short or long, about how you plan to contribute so that you will be confirmed. If all you want to do is add your own family branch, that's okay! Once you are confirmed as a full member, your profile will become a part of our global family tree, so consider that when you make your decision!
To start:
1. Our Honor Code is a very important part of why our community is such a friendly place to grow your family tree so please take some time to read it.
Now that you have had a little time to try WikiTree, there are a few more features you may find useful.
Ideas on what to include in a profile can be found in Styles and Standards, including some tips on writing biographies.
If you need to describe an event, an heirloom or a location relevant to your research, you may like to learn about Free Space Profiles.
Lastly, sometimes you'll run into unresponsive profile managers. We have a process for resolving those unfortunate situations.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask via my profile page.
