Mary arrived at the Whitman Mission in Waiilatpu, the Oregon Country at the age of 7 with her parents and siblings late in 1846. They stayed 11 months, departing three days before the Whitman Massacre. The family settled in Linn in 1847.[7][8]
Mary married John C Hampton 30 Aug 1855 in Linn County, Oregon Territory. They farmed Donation Land Claim #395.[6][9]
