Mrs. Amanda Pittinger, wife of John W. Pittinger, whose life from early childhood had been principally spent in the vicinity of Chico, passed away at the family home on the river road south of Chico, Friday last, after a protracted illness induced by complication of diseases.
Mrs. Pittinger was born in the State of Indiana, July 27, 1840, and was consequently 64 years of age. She came to the Pacific coast when but a child, and on March 5, 1857, was united to her husband, John W. Pittinger, in the State of Oregon. There were born to Mr. and Mrs. Pittinger nine children, seven of whom, together with her husband, survive her. For more than thirty years Mrs. Pittinger had been an earnest worker in the cause of religion and a devout member of the Christian church.
The funeral took place Sunday afternoon from the home of the deceased, the services being conducted by Rev. T.G. Picton of the Chico Christian church, in a most impressive and touching manner, and internment was had in the Chico cemetery in the presence of many friends of the family.
Deceased leaves behind to grieve, her husband and the following children: Mrs. Sarah Matthews, Mrs. J.D. March, J.W. Pittinger, J.F. Pittinger, Mrs. Ida Johnson, Mrs. Annie Lyons, and J.O. Pittinger.
